How to Search for Different Elements (cabinets, colours, etc.) in Piper
In most search text boxes, typing the keyword will only search for elements that start with that keyword. This way, you will only get exact matches. However, by adding the * (asterisk) character before your keyword, you can list elements that contain the keyword anywhere in their name.
Here’s an example showing how this works in practice, where we will search among the primary front colours:
In the above picture, we searched for the word white without the asterisk and only got results that start with white. | In this search, we used the * character before the keyword, and you can see that we got all the colours that have white somewhere in their name. |
You can use this type of search almost anywhere in the program where keyword-based filtering is possible.
Using the * (asterisk) character for filtering
In various parts of the program, you can create predefined filters based on specific criteria. For example, filtering colours in the properties. The selectable color "categories" in the middle are essentially predefined filters.
For these filters, make sure the * keyword is used after the filter term, not before. You can find examples of this usage on the properties/filters page.
Starting from the 3.8.74 update, the * character is automatically added to the search fields in the Properties and Colour designer search boxes.
Keywords: #search #* #asterisk #filtering #asterisk character
